Our Lineage
Every technique traces back to Helio Gracie, who adapted traditional Judo into a system built for a smaller, weaker person to prevail - the foundation Gracie University still teaches today.
Evolution Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is officially authorised under Gracie University in California, one of the world's most respected names in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. As the leading martial arts club in Ilkley for Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, every class runs in a friendly, safe environment designed to help students of every level pick up the full curriculum through clear, methodical instruction.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is built to let a smaller, weaker person control a bigger, stronger attacker — tiring them out and neutralising the threat without striking.
Rather than trading blows, students learn joint locks, chokes and control positions that let them make an aggressor work hard, make mistakes, and eventually give the student the opening they need — either to escape safely or to finish the encounter on their own terms.

Five programs, one curriculum - whether you're looking for kids martial arts classes in Ilkley or adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, pick the track that fits and progress at your own pace with instructors tracking every step.
Kids Martial Arts Club Ilkley · Ages 3–14 · No strikes, ever
We teach children verbal assertiveness to deter bullies, plus non-violent self-defence they can use if they're physically assaulted. There's no punching or kicking here - instead kids learn leverage-based control holds that neutralise a threat without turning them into an aggressor.
The programme runs on a five-point Rules of Engagement that every student rehearses in class:
